FC Barcelona have already embarked on their defense of the La Liga title, which started as a draw against Getafe. Now, the Catalans will be looking forward to their match against Cadiz, which is scheduled for this coming Sunday.
However, it is highly likely that Xavi would not have one of his starting center-backs available for this match.
Ronald Araujo suffers an injury in training
FC Barcelona has officially confirmed that the first team player, Ronald Araujo, has suffered an injury to his hamstring, as the team was training for their match against Cadiz at the Montjuic. The statement from the club goes as:
“Araujo has a problem with his left hamstring. He’s out and his recovery will mark his return.”
Although further tests will evaluate the extent of the injury, the Uruguayan defender is expected to remain unavailable for Xavi for at least up to a month according to a recent update provided by Mundo Deportivo.
What does it mean for FC Barcelona?
Ronald Araujo is one of the fixed starters for Xavi and the Uruguayan played an important part in the La Liga triumph last season. Thus, his loss will definitely be felt by Xavi and the team in the upcoming matches.
However, Barcelona have ample resources available in the central defensive zones as Andreas Christensen has already returned to action, and the new signing, Inigo Martinez, is also in the final stages of his recovery from his niggling physical issues.
The Catalans are also expected to get Marcos Alonso registered this week, while Eric Garcia is also available to play as a central defender.
Jules Kounde who played mainly as a right-back last season has been playing in the center of the defense during the pre-season and also operated as a center-back in the match against Getafe, while Araujo played on the right flank.
With Araujo’s injury and no right-back signed till now, Xavi will have a problem at his hand covering this weak area of his squad.
