The hits keep on coming for FC Barcelona as they continue to suffer the consequences of the international break. It was already a known risk that the Catalan club is all too familiar with and it seems that the risk in question will not let them have their peace. Understandably, it is the risk of injuries that continues to haunt Barcelona.
The most recent victim prior to today was Pedri, and the 21-year-old Barcelona midfielder was injured while playing for Spain against Germany. Injured by Toni Kroos, the player has since even received an apology from the German star and former Real Madrid midfielder.
However, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Pedri is no longer the Barcelona player to suffer the latest injury during the international break. He has now been overtaken by Ronald Araujo, with the €70 million-rated Barcelona defender taken off during the encounter between Uruguay and Brazil in the Copa America.
During the 32nd minute of the quarterfinal clash between the two South American nations, Araujo was injured while trying to block a cross from Brazilian player Guilherme Arana. Soon after, the player seemed to feel a surge of pain in his hamstring and thigh as he went to the ground and stayed there.
The Barcelona and Uruguay defender stayed on the ground as he needed treatment. Despite many fans of his country and club hoping he would stand up and continue in the game, it was not to be.
Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa was then forced to make a change as it became clear that the Barcelona captain’s injury was too severe for him to continue.
For now, there is no update as to how severe or major Araujo’s injury is. From the looks of it, however, it would seem that the Barcelona defender has suffered an injury to his hamstring.
Unfortunately, this is not the first muscle injury that the 25-year-old South American player has suffered since he joined Barcelona, and has instead already suffered eight since joining the Catalan club in 2019.
