Ronald Araujo was one of the FC Barcelona players who spoke to the media after his team came out victorious from the clash against Real Madrid. In this talk, the Uruguayan defender talked about different aspects of the match and the team.
As SPORT has noted, one of Araujo’s colleagues from the lower categories of FC Barcelona, Fermin Lopez, had a phenomenal outing in this match, where he scored a good goal and also gave an assist to Ferran Torres. Speaking of his performance in this match, Araujo commented:
“He is very happy. Fermín is a good player. I already knew him from when he was younger. When I arrived at the club, he was quite small, and he has grown.”
“During the preseason, he has been doing well in training. I think the coach saw that, and that’s why he is giving him opportunities, which he has taken advantage of. He played a great game, and I hope he can continue like this.”
A win against Real Madrid is always a cause for celebration at FC Barcelona, even if it is a friendly, because of the heated nature of the rivalry between the two clubs. However, Araujo cautioned his teammates to remain humble despite this win, and keep on working hard for the upcoming season:
“I believe we need to approach this with great humility. Both teams have strong squads. It was a preseason match, and we’ll see how it goes when the points really matter.”
The last main point of his talk was concerned with another of his teammates, the Frenchman Ousmane Dembele, who contributed significantly to the victory in this match. However, Dembele has been linked for a move away from Catalonia in the last few days, and about this proposed move, Araujo commented:
“I hope not. He is an important player for us, very important. I hope he stays with us. It’s up to the club and him, but I want him to stay.”
Thus, despite the win against Real Madrid, there is wisdom in Araujo’s words that the team has to proceed with humility, especially as this was only a preseason friendly, and the real tests start in August, when La Liga will officially kick-off.
