As FC Barcelona prepare themselves for a long summer transfer window ahead, with various signings and departures yet to be sorted, the club must also simultaneously tend to their own stars.

Such stars include those returning from loan, as these players in particular are yet to fully realize what their club considers best for them and their respective futures. In the case of FC Barcelona, there are a handful of players they would rather see depart and bring in funds rather than be a part of the club’s first team next season.

However, not everything goes as expected. As per the most recent confirmation by Fabrizio Romano, and English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur themselves, French Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet, recently on loan at the English side, will indeed be returning to FC Barcelona.

The 27-year-old defender had a decent loan spell at Spurs, with reports even suggesting that the English side considered him a solid defensive outlet as well as a good professional, consequently letting them perceive his stay to be one that Spurs would indeed want extended.

However, with this latest development, it becomes clear that the club will no longer be interested in purchasing the €12 million rated defender and his subsequent return to Barcelona is a scenario that the Catalan club is not exactly thrilled about, given that they would ideally prefer a permanent transfer.

This possible U-turn on their decision to not sign the Frenchman permanently could be the result of the newly appointed head coach and former Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglu, who may potentially not be as big a fan of Lenglet and resultantly may have persuaded the club into releasing a player that their new coach does not have in his plans for next season.

While the player will inevitably make a return to FC Barcelona over the summer, it remains clear that the first priority for La Blaugrana would be to attempt to find potential suitors for the former Sevilla man and current Barcelona central defender.
