As the squad planning for the next season goes on at FC Barcelona, the club would have to take care of player departures as well as player arrivals to meet their objectives for the transfer window.
Jordi Alba is one of the players whose future is under consideration at the club and requires a decision soon. Diario AS reports that there has been significant activity in regard to Alba’s future at the club, as the player’s agents had a meeting with Mateu Alemany six days ago.
Now, they report that another meeting has taken place between the player himself and the club President, Joan Laporta, and his trusted associate, Alejandro Echevarria.
The meeting was held in a restaurant in a posh Barcelona area. During this meeting, the President conveyed to the player that he would have to take a 60% lower wage in order to continue at FC Barcelona.
Furthermore, this payment would be deferred for 2 years in order to remain within the confines of the feasibility plan that FC Barcelona has submitted to La Liga.
However, sources close to the player have denied any such salary cut proposal but agree that the said meeting took place in which the player communicated his willingness and ability to keep playing at the club, despite not getting many opportunities in the last season.
While Alba has been adamant about not leaving the club in the last few windows, the club is working to find suitors for the veteran player. Even last season, when Alba’s form was not at its best, the club tried to offload the player to Inter Milan, but the operation broke down due to various reasons.
