Although FC Barcelona could not win any piece of silverware, there were still some positives to take away from the last season. The way some of the youth players developed and played at the highest level of European football was undoubtedly one such positive for the Blaugrana fans.
Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, and Hector Fort all got significant minutes with the first team, with the former three establishing themselves as important players for Xavi. Another player who took a massive leap in the last year was Mikail Faye, although he was unable to make his debut with the first team.
The Senegalese defender played his first match under Flick against Real Madrid last night. He played 25 minutes in this game after missing out on the first friendly against Manchester City due to a knock he suffered in training.
Coming on in the second half, it looked like the defender was fully recovered from this injury, as he made some significant contributions both in defense and attack. However, he could have suffered from another injury in the match, but luckily, remained unscathed after a horrific tackle from a Real Madrid player.
As SPORT has reported, Faye was subject to a fierce tackle from the Merengue youngster Mario Martin, as the latter arrived late while trying to win the ball from the Senegalese defender. Faye went to the ground and there were visible signs of pain on his face, but was able to continue playing as the game went on.
Thus, fortunately, the youngster was able to avoid a serious injury in this friendly match. He will now be available for selection for the upcoming matches, but his role under the new Barcelona coach still remains unknown. He has clearly outgrown Barcelona Atletic, so he will either have a place in the first team or will leave to play with another team for the next season.
