It seems that many of the most promising talents at FC Barcelona continue to attract visitors. These ‘visitors’ are essentially just teams that hope to snatch away those young prodigies developed within the academy or subsidiary. However, given the plethora of talents, Barcelona continues to develop, who can even blame them.
One name in particular who has attracted a lot of European interest is young defender Mikayil Faye. Primarily a central defender, the left-footed starlet from Senegal arrived in Barcelona during the summer from Croatian side NK Kustosija. However, it has not been easy for Barcelona to keep a hold of the talented 19-year-old.
Clubs like RC Lens from France and Eintracht Frankfurt from Germany are quite eager to invest in him, but Barcelona have always kept him away. However, it is not just the Catalan club that wants to keep the player away from these interested teams, but even the player himself has no intention of leaving.
As highlighted by SPORT, Faye’s aspirations remain entangled with those of Barça’s. His current objective remains to finish the season with Rafa Marquez and Barcelona Atletic, and then he dreams of fulfilling his promise with the first team.
However, SPORT does also mentions that there may be a certain factor that could convince Faye to leave. While offers from Lens and Frankfurt are appreciated, they are not exactly eye-catching for the Senegalese defender. On the other hand, if an offer of significant prestige and value came about, the player could potentially look into it.
For Barcelona, however, he remains a key player for the future. Just as Pau Cubarsi has begun to show his talents to the world on the big stage, Faye could be next in line at the club. Even Ronald Araujo, one of the team’s captains and star defenders, also started his Barcelona journey from the B team.
The summer will be defining for Faye, however. As Xavi leaves, Barcelona will make a decision regarding who takes his place as the first-team coach. In case Rafa Marquez takes over, it would be beneficial for Faye’s advancement. However, even if he does not, Barça Atletic’s own promotion to the second division could persuade the player to stay, and possibly vice versa if they do not.
