The latest defeat for FC Barcelona came at the hands of Athletic Club in the Copa Del Rey. As a result of that loss, Barça is now out of the competition in the quarterfinals. However, initially, it seemed as if Barcelona suffered more than just a hard-hitting defeat.
Reports of several Barcelona defenders having to undergo medical examinations came out just recently. Even through the eye test, it was clear to see that many Barça players ended the last game with visible discomfort and pain.
However, it seems that FC Barcelona are fortunate enough to have survived a major scare. While there definitely was initial concern and fear, SPORT now reveals that the Blaugranes have some positive news for themselves.
As per the latest update, the Catalans are going to be fortunate enough to have most of their key defenders available against Villarreal in their upcoming La Liga clash. Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Hector Fort will all reportedly be ready.
The Danish defender was substituted against Bilbao in the 70th minute due to a slight discomfort. However, SPORT reveals that it was already planned ahead of the game that Christensen would not play the entire match. Ultimately, it seems that his discomfort is not severe and he should be back for the next game.
Ronald Araujo, similarly, had problems during the game as well. However, he was not taken off like his Danish teammate. Even after the game, the Uruguayan commented about his knee problems and the discomfort they have been causing him.
Fortunately, it is not a long-lasting injury and SPORT believes he will be ready for the upcoming game. This is a major sigh of relief for Barcelona, who regularly count on Araujo to bail them out of tough places and situations.
Moreover, even Hector Fort will likely be available for selection. The young teenage sensation was extraordinary against Athletic Club despite not being played in his natural position. However, he began to visibly limp in the dying minutes of the match.
Fortunately, it seems that it was just cramps that he had to worry about and nothing more. His inclusion also seems guaranteed, and with Alejandro Balde possibly sidelined for some time now, Fort’s presence could provide Xavi with some crucial solutions.
Even Joao Cancelo, who could not take part against Athletic Club, should be fit to play. He practiced and trained normally in the latest group session, albeit with a leg support bandage, and should be good to go against Villarreal.
