Tough decisions in football are something Barcelona is quite accustomed to. However, both the pros and cons of any decision must first be studied before it is ultimately made. Certain decisions in the past have harmed Barcelona, while others have granted them with great rewards.
One of the most regretted decisions in recent times undoubtedly has to be the overexertion of Pedri. The Canary Islander, one of the pearls of Barcelona, has continuously suffered muscular injuries since his unfathomably demanding 2020.
With his participation in the Olympics as well as the Euros, the player was left extremely fatigued. However, Barcelona will now face another such possibility with a new face.
According to SPORT, 18-year-old Vitor Roque is one of the primary names being considered by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to invite to participate in the qualifying games for the Olympics that are set to be held next year.
However, it seems almost certain that Barcelona will be rejecting any such advances. Considered as Barça’s only expected arrival in January, Barcelona consider losing him so soon as being completely non-negotiable.
The qualifiers are scheduled to take place between January and February of 2024, quite soon after Roque’s expected debut. Moreover, the qualifiers are not included in FIFA’s official calendar either, so Barcelona have no intention of letting their Brazilian acquisition leave for them.
While the qualifiers may be demanding, they typically do not represent the squads that teams will ultimately take to the Olympics itself. Brazil remains the most decorated country in football when it comes to the Olympics, and they will undoubtedly field a strong side if they manage to qualify.
Upon a hypothetical qualification, Brazil are expected by SPORT to come asking for Roque again. By that time, the decision for Barcelona and the player will become a legitimate one. For now, however, Barça maintains their position about not letting their soon-to-be striker go away to Venezuela for said qualifiers.
