Barcelona director working on two renewal cases before leaving – report

Barcelona director Mateu Alemany

Massive changes are taking place in the FC Barcelona executive structure, with important positions in the organization undergoing a change.

Mateu Alemany has already confirmed his departure from the club at the end of the season, but before leaving, he has ensured the club that he will fulfill all his present commitments. One of the most pressing issues on the bureau for the current Director of Football is the renewal of Ousmane Dembele.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the departing director has put the operation to renew Dembele on a fast track, and has already sent an offer to his agent, Moussa Sissoko. He now awaits a reply from the Frenchman’s agent, which is also expected to come soon.

Another matter that Alemany would be looking to conclude soon is that of Xavi Hernandez’ renewal as the Head Coach of the first team. Previous reports mentioned that the Director was waiting for the league campaign to come to a conclusion before embarking on this operation.

Now that FC Barcelona have been confirmed as the league champions, he will start working on this important assignment.

After completing these assignments, Alemany would be free to step towards the next stage in his career, which appears to be in England, with Aston Villa being touted as his most probable destination for the next season.

Meanwhile, the club itself will also be looking for Alemany’s replacement as the Director of Football, with a number of candidates being considered. One option being considered by the club is appointing Jordi Cruyff as the Director of Football, and bringing in another person for the Sporting Director role.

Deco is also being strongly linked with the club for the Director of Football role, but he would have to relinquish his responsibilities as an agent, before he can take this role at the club.
