Several weeks have passed since FC Barcelona played the last match of the 2022-23 season, and have been focusing on the transfer side of things. While they have had notable successes with incoming transfers, they are still significantly lagging behind their objectives for outgoing transfers.

Offloading players that are not an essential part of the squad is of the utmost importance for the club this summer, as they cannot get their new signings registered if this task is not properly fulfilled.

As things stand, the club has been unsuccessful in all its efforts in this regard, and according to Diario AS, Barcelona have been able to convince only one player, Franck Kessie, to find a new club for himself.

The player has high demand in Serie A, with Inter Milan showing the most interest and the player can be offloaded as a part of the package for Marcelo Brozovic.

There are two other players that the club is looking to sell to generate funds, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres. However, both these players are reluctant to move away from the club, and their lack of readiness to move to new clubs has disappointed the club’s higher-ups.

Torres’ contract with Barcelona runs up to 2027, and the player is not listening to any offers, despite the club disclosing that he would not have an important role in the squad in the next season. His case is also problematic as even if he is sold, his wage reduction will not make much of a difference in the club’s accounts as there are still €60 million left in amortized costs.

With Fati, any income he generates would be a profit for the club, and a sale would also help the club get rid of a significant amount in wages payable. However, Fati is also not willing to listen to any offers and has already rejected a proposed move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in recent weeks.

In such a scenario, the club is now looking to another approach and is now prioritizing the offloading of its returning loanees. Thus, the club can offer a letter of freedom to Samuel Umtiti and is also open to selling Eric Garcia, who is going to see his game time further reduced with the arrival of Inigo Martinez.
