FC Barcelona have provided their fans with another window to see how things go on inside the club with the second series of the documentary, FC Barcelona: A New Era.

As previously reported here, one of the episodes of this documentary showed the frustration of the club on drawing the first match of La Liga last season. After this match, Xavi had to calm the board members and ensure them that Barcelona will end up winning the title, which they actually did.

Xavi apologising to Alba

As SPORT has highlighted, another episode of this documentary focuses on one of the sad parts of the last season, i.e., the departure of club legends like Pique, Busquets, and Jordi Alba.

In Jordi Alba’s part, one of the main highlights is his goal against Osasuna, and his last days as a Barcelona player. In one of the scenes, Xavi can be seen talking to the entire team in the locker room, and speaks up to Alba to open up the situation to him:

“If at any point you feel frustrated, especially with me, then I’m really sorry. Look, I care about you a lot, I respect you a lot, it’s nothing personal, and you know it.”

The Barcelona head coach then goes on to further explain his decision:

“As a coach, sometimes you have to make decisions, and these decisions are often tough, especially when it involves friends.”

Alba’s departure

After Alba’s departure, Xavi can be seen reflecting on the decision about the left-back in the following words:

“With Alba, you have the feeling that you’re failing as a friend, but you have to prioritize the team.”

Xavi and Alba had played together when Xavi was still a player at Barcelona. However, last season, it was clear that age was catching up with the fullback.

Alejandro Balde, who replaced Alba in the team, gave a good performance in his debut season at the club and thus should have ended most of the regrets that Xavi might have had because of Alba’s exit.
