Their strained finances have been one of the biggest issues for FC Barcelona in the last few years. The club’s poor performance in the economic aspect has impacted all of its operations, and the Catalans had to take some extreme steps in the last few years, like selling their long-term assets, to remain competitive in the market and on the pitch.
In such circumstances, Barcelona have to ensure they do not miss out on any opportunity to make money, either from sporting competitions or from the market.
Barcelona earnings surpass those of the previous two seasons
According to Mundo Deportivo, the UEFA Champions League is emerging as a good source of funds for the Catalan club, and Barcelona have already surpassed its earnings from the competition in its last two editions.
The Catalans have won three of their matches, against Royal Antwerp, Porto, and Shakhtar Donetsk. These victories have accumulated €8.4 million for them, surpassing the €6.53 they were able to generate in the last season.
UEFA rewards every victory in the group stage with €2.8 million and every draw with €930,000. Up to now, Barcelona have already got €8.4 million with their three victories, but this sum can go even higher and reach up to €16.8 million if they win the remaining three matches as well.
The quality of the rivals in the group stage means it is possible for Barcelona to get all six victories, but the Catalans have achieved such a feat only once in their history.
Total earnings of €58.05 million from UEFA CL this season
The earnings from the UEFA Champions League do not end here, as the Catalans will earn another €49.65 million from this competition.
€15.64 million comes from being in the group stage, while another €34.11 million have been promised for being third in the 10-year historical classification that also rewards achievements throughout history.
Thus, Barcelona’s total earnings from the premier European competition have risen up to €58.05 million this season so far.
