Barcelona ex-winger and Dutch national team player Memphis Depay is currently playing for La Liga side and rivals of the Catalans, Atletico de Madrid. Playing for Diego Simeone at this point in time, the winger had some interesting things to make note of from his time at FC Barcelona.

The Dutchman primarily made it quite clear that he is currently enjoying life in the Spanish capital. Speaking to ELFVOETBAL, the player stated that he currently feels great at his new club and believes he made the right decision at the right time of his career by joining the Colchoneros. Depay believes that the current training regime and working ethics within the Madrid-based side help him develop as a player much better than what he experienced with Barcelona.

He emphasized that the more physically demanding training sessions at Atletico de Madrid suit his style of play better in comparison to the rather lesser demanding ones at Barcelona. The player also linked his issues with injuries during that period with this concern as well.

However, he was also quick to answer a question regarding the possible disappointment he felt upon the end of his time at FC Barcelona, a club he had dreamed of playing for a long time. Stating that he indeed felt disappointed, especially because the club he had to leave was FC Barcelona after all, but that he remains optimistic and that he believes hard decisions such as these are part of football.

The player now wants to focus on his time under Simeone and prove his own self-worth as a footballer again to both club and country.
