FC Barcelona higher-ups are working hard to find solutions for players that Xavi does not need for the next season, but they have not concluded any major sales yet. One of the players that the club is expecting to sell in this summer transfer window is the French center-back Clement Lenglet.
Lenglet spent the last season on loan at Tottenham, as he has not performed for Barcelona in years. This summer, the London club was negotiating with the Catalan giants for a permanent move of the defender.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, despite being the most advanced side in the negotiations for Lenglet, the Catalan club believes the player will have demand from other clubs as well, and thus are not going to rush to close an agreement with Hotspurs, who may not offer the amount that Barcelona expects for the defender.
Lenglet joined Blaugranes from Sevilla in the summer of 2018 for €35.9 million. The player’s contract with Barcelona still has three years left on it, as it goes to 2026, but Lenglet has seen his performances drop with every season and has not been a relied-upon player in the Blaugrana squad in the last few years.
His wages at Barcelona are currently quite high and reach €16 million gross as he had deferred a part of his salary during the Covid-19 pandemic. This wage is one of the factors that are making a transfer for him difficult. While there are teams interested in the center-back, only a few of them can afford his wages.
Thus, Barcelona expect Lenglet himself to make an effort to lower his wages and get to another club where he will be featuring more often on the pitch.
