Barcelona do not face a shortage of talent when it comes to the quality of their first-team players. Despite occasionally poor results and performances, this Barcelona team has a high ceiling. Getting the best out of them is Xavi Hernandez’s responsibility, and that is all that stands between their potential and their peak.

However, it is not uncommon to slowly filter out the stars no longer performing at their best level. While there is no urgent need for a center forward, Robert Lewandowski’s form has been dwindling. The Polish ace no longer shows the impact he did last season, and Vitor Roque’s arrival in January is expected to curb that.

Mexican spotlight

Despite Roque’s arrival, it seems Barcelona want to keep their options open. According to Spanish outlet SPORT, the Catalan giants have a keen eye kept on Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord. The Mexican striker is currently thriving in the Netherlands, playing in the Eredivisie.

Only aged 22, the center forward has impressive numbers attached to his name. So far, he has scored 13 goals in 10 Dutch League appearances. Moreover, he also has two goals from one UEFA Champions League appearance this season. Three assists are also added to his tally across the Eredivisie campaign thus far.

Budget-friendly striker

Born in Argentina, the striker has chosen to represent the Mexican National team. SPORT believes that the reason Barcelona are keeping an eye on him could be due to financial reasons primarily. Valued at €40 million at the moment, he would cost significantly less than the world beaters of today.

However, he does have a contract in place till 2027. Negotiating with Feyenoord could be a significant hurdle if Barcelona do end up deciding to pursue his signature. Remaining true to their plan of action, Barcelona will continue to scout promising young stars that are worth investing in early on rather than splash big on established superstars.
