The quest to find that ever-so-important piece in the midfield remains intact for FC Barcelona, with a number of elite midfielders reportedly on their list. In the most recent of developments, a new name has apparently emerged.
As pointed out by SPORT, the English newspaper The Sunday Times has come out with updates regarding Barca’s midfield interests. As per the English source, FC Barcelona are now interested in Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.
25 years old and donning the number 39 for Newcastle, the Brazilian midfielder can operate both as a central midfielder and a defensive midfielder. Reports associating links with top European clubs come as understandable given his impressive season for Newcastle, one that allowed him to aid his side in sealing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
However, the news does come as a bit of an untimely surprise given that The Sunday Times proclaims that FC Barcelona would be willing to take away the Brazilian for a fee of around €100 million, a sum that many understand would be unfeasible for Barca given their currently well documented economical issues.
As it stands, FC Barcelona have a list of names such as the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Martin Zubimendi, and Sofyan Amrabat among some others that they classify as their main targets and so far, it seems improbable that Bruno Guimaraes will end up being a likely option that they pursue, particularly because the high monetary demands for anyone looking to acquire Newcastle’s star midfielder, one that the club does not wish to sell under any circumstances either way.
