FC Barcelona are having a season to remember, as they finally seem to be recovering their position domestically, that they had been unable to retain in the last few seasons, and Xavi Hernandez has played an integral part in making this happen.
Ever since Lionel Messi left La Blaugrana, the Catalan club has been unable to win a La Liga title. Coming 2nd or 3rd in a league race would be a cause of happiness for most clubs in the world, but FC Barcelona is among the select few clubs who are expected to win titles every season.
This is especially true for La Liga, as they have dominated the competition for almost the entirety of the 2009-2019 decade. Thus, having been pipped by Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid in the last two seasons was a painful experience for the Blaugrana faithful.
However, this La Liga title seems to be destined for FC Barcelona, as they have already built up an 8-point lead over the second place Real Madrid.
They have also won the Supercopa de Espana and have advanced to the Copa del Rey semifinals, where they also face Real Madrid. Xavi deserves credit for making this happen, as he has gradually stabilized the club, and set up a team that seems unbeatable domestically.
As a result, SPORT reports that FC Barcelona are already considering an offer for a contract renewal of their head coach Xavi Hernández, which will be worked upon more actively at the end of the season.
The report further indicates that Xavi is expected to continue as the gaffer till the end of Joan Laporta’s tenure. Laporta also had only two coaches in his last tenure, Rijkaard and Pep, and this time around, he will stick with Xavi, who came in for Ronald Koeman.
The club believes that stability and continuity are the way forward, and would not embark on a policy of quickly changing managers, as Chelsea and PSG have been doing recently with little success.
