Although the team is currently short on midfielders because of injuries, there is no doubt that FC Barcelona have one of the best set of midfielders available to them.
The Catalans can boast of names as competent as Gundogan, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Gavi, in their midfield, which are all excellent players and are among the highest-rated in world football.
However, Barcelona are also open to getting more reinforcements for the midfield in the future, and according to SPORT, one of the latest players to join the list of midfielders liked by the Catalan club is Morten Hjulmand.
The Danish midfielder went to Portugal to play for Sporting Lisbon last summer from the Italian club Lecce. He excels while playing as a defensive midfielder, and his development in the last season has caught the eyes of several clubs, including Barcelona.
Signing the midfielder was one of the great achievements of the current Sporting coach, Ruben Amorim. The coach himself has also been linked with Barcelona, some days after Xavi Hernandez’s announcement of leaving the club at the end of the season.
Deco’s roots and repeated trips to Portugal had particularly fanned the rumor that Amorim was one of the coaches being lined up to replace Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona. However, Deco himself had ruled out his acquisition in an interview.
But Amorim’s player, Hjulmand, still remains linked with Barcelona, and he is one of the options for the Catalans to reinforce their midfield ahead of the coming season. He has proven himself to be a responsible player for Sporting, having accumulated 37 appearances in all competitions, while scoring two goals and creating another two.
He is currently rated at €26 million by Transfermarkt and has a contract till 2028. Thus, Barcelona will have to shell out a significant amount if they want to get the midfielder, which might be something too much to ask for the Catalans who are going through a difficult economic period.
