Barcelona face competition for 18-year-old Spanish fullback – report

The summer transfer window nears its conclusion for FC Barcelona and other European sides around the continent, as the clubs look to finalize their various operations and get to the points of urgency that require their utmost attention and determination to get deals over the line.

For Barcelona, the priority lies within ensuring that the right-back position can be reinforced through the signings they are hoping to have acquired before the end of the summer transfer window.

The absolute priority for Xavi Hernandez remains 29-year-old Manchester City and Portuguese National team fullback Joao Cancelo, but due to certain difficulties and complications in the operation concerning him, Barcelona have kept their options for alternatives open.

As such, Barcelona have kept the option of Real Valladolid fullback Ivan Fresneda an open possibility, one that the 18-year-old player looks at favorably himself as well. However, as Spanish outlet SPORT reports, the Catalans could have competition to deal with.

Two teams in particular from the English Premier League, as well as FC Porto and Sporting CP from the Portuguese league, have all begun to showcase interest in taking away the Spanish fullback as Barcelona have maintained interest for the majority of the summer in his arrival.

Barcelona have already had an offer rejected for his acquisition as well, with details of the offer reporting it to have been around €8 million as a fixed amount alongside €10 million in variables according to SPORT.

Despite Cancelo remaining the absolute priority, Barcelona do not consider both signings incompatible and will look to consider signing both the Manchester City star as well as the Real Valladolid youngster who Barcelona consider to have a huge projection for the future.
