While FC Barcelona continue their advances in terms of possible arrivals in the shape of various top players that they continue to monitor and formulate offers for, they have other tasks that they must simultaneously tend to.
The departures of several players are also still on the list of objectives Barcelona have for the summer, and while some such as French winger Ousmane Dembele and Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie are already on their way out, others remain very much at Barcelona while the club tries to find a way out for them.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, two players in particular that the club continues to look for ways out for are French central defender Clement Lenglet and American fullback Sergino Dest.
In the case of the 28-year-old central defender Lenglet, Barcelona continue to negotiate a reasonable transfer fee for his departure.
According to MD, the club that Barcelona are currently discussing his possible departure to is English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, where Lenglet also spent last season on loan, who are interestingly also the chosen opponents for their year’s iteration of the Joan Gamper trophy bout scheduled to take place on the 8th of August.
The differences between both clubs remain the transfer fee as Spurs continue to offer a lower one than that of the ideal for Barcelona. The prolonged negotiations have become stalled and the Catalan club hopes to make good progress by having the representatives from both clubs hold a meeting on the day of the Joan Gamper game between the two sides.
Other offers such as that of Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr have also materialized for the Frenchman and they offer a transfer fee to the liking of the Catalans. However, the prospect of playing in the Middle East does not attract the defender and he wishes to continue playing in Europe and hopefully in England, despite the fact that the financial package to the player is greater than that offered by other clubs.
The case of Sergino Dest is far more complicated however, as thus far no concrete offers have arrived for the American fullback and Barcelona are facing a dilemma of how to part ways with the 22-year-old.
Despite spending last season on loan with Italian Serie A giants AC Milan, Dest was unable to convince manager Stefano Pioli and remained a rather sidelined player for much of the second half of the campaign.
At this moment in time, Barcelona believe that, barring any surprising developments, the player will have to be sent out on loan yet again unless a proper transfer offer for him materializes.
Barcelona are hoping to conclude these transfers as soon as possible in order to generate additional funds as well as take their salaries, particularly Lenglet’s rather significant one, off their financial books in order to be able to reinvest and bring in other summer targets.
