Being in the later stages of a successful domestic season in which they have already won the Spanish Supercup and are the clear favorites to win La Liga, FC Barcelona are already planning for bringing reinforcements to the team for the next season, in order to sustain and build on the successes of this season.

Regarding arrivals, the first priority of the club officials is to ensure that they can successfully bring Lionel Messi back to Camp Nou. News of negotiations between the Catalan club and Messi’s entourage have been doing the rounds on different media channels, and the fact that Messi has not yet signed a renewal with PSG further provides optimism to the club that they can bring the Argentine back to Camp Nou this summer.

However, this operation is still in process, and Messi”s arrival is not yet certain. In such a context, the club is keeping its options open by having alternative plans to pursue in case negotiations with Messi do not go as planned. According to Diario AS, one of these alternative plans for the club is to sign Gabri Veiga, if they are unable to bring Messi back.

The report claims that Joan Laporta is an admirer of the young Spaniard, who has exploded onto the scene this season. Playing as an attacking output in Celta Vigo’s midfield, the player has already started 22 matches for his team this season, in addition to 8 substitute appearances.

In 1824 minutes on the pitch, the player has scored 9 goals and given 4 assists, while also winning two man-of-match awards.

Thus, while the drop off in quality from Messi to Veiga will put off some Barcelona fans, Veiga is still a quality player, with high potential. His experience of playing in La Liga, and ability to score goals from the midfield can come in handy for the Catalan club, especially if they miss out on Lionel Messi this summer.
