FC Barcelona have recently been marred with economical and financial issues, and it is no secret to the rest of the footballing world. From having their spending come under scrutiny and restrictions, to even being told to decrease their current spending on player wages significantly, the Catalan club may be forced to make some high-stake decisions come the summer transfer window of 2023.

Two such players that the Barcelona board may look to part ways with are Spanish duo Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati. Two players that at one point of their respective introductions to the first team showcased real potential and quality to them. As time has passed, however, doubts and critiques continue to accumulate.

Ansu Fati is a self-made product of FC Barcelona. Hailing from their own academy, La Masia, the youngster made striking headlines during his debut season with the first team. Scoring 8 goals and providing 1 assist across all competitions in the 2019/2020 season, the young prodigy seemed destined for greatness.

Fast forward a couple of seasons later, the youngster, now donning the fabled number 10 of many Barcelona greats, remains a victim of multiple career-altering injuries that have left him devoid of confidence and stripped him of his once explosive presence.

If recent reports are to be believed from M.Carmen Torres, it seems not too far-fetched to assume that Barcelona would be willing to part ways with him should a persuasive enough offer arrive, despite their faith in the youngster even now.

The case of Ferran Torres, however, differs relatively. Brought in from Manchester City for a transfer fee of around €48 million during the 2021/2022 season, the Spaniard was able to produce decent numbers in his debut season. Scoring 7 times across all competitions and providing another 6 assists for Barcelona, it was rather his unreliable presence in front of goal coupled with his noticeably frustrating hesitance in decision-making that worried the Blaugrana faithful.

Along comes the ongoing 2022/2023 season, and things have arguably gone from worrying to bad. The player has lost most of his game time to the likes of Xavi’s more trusted outlets on the wings in the form of Frenchman Ousmane Dembele and Brazilian acquisition from Leeds United, Raphinha.

With this loss of both importance and form, Ferran Torres, just like Ansu Fati, could very well be the likely candidate that the Catalan board would consider sacrificing to make some more room in regards to Financial Fair Play and improving their holistic economic situation.
