Ferran Torres is one of the most in-form players currently at FC Barcelona. The player, nicknamed “the shark” by the squad, is having a season wildly opposite to the one he had last year.

In the last season, Ferran Torres played only a secondary role in the Barcelona squad, and over the summer, he was constantly linked with a move away from the Catalan club. However, he has surprised everyone with the form that he has been showing since the end of the last season.

Brilliant start of the season for Ferran

Up to now, Ferran has scored four goals in nine games for Barcelona and is one of the fittest players in Xavi’s squad. He was not counted highly upon by Xavi at the start of the season, as he did not feature against Getafe and came on only in the final minutes against Cadiz. However, he needed only nine minutes to score a goal in this latter match.

He once again came off the bench in the match against Villarreal in the 63rd minute and scored a goal only five minutes after stepping onto the pitch. He thus contributed to the comeback, which would ultimately see Barcelona win 4-3.

Torres got his first start of the season against Real Betis and scored third of the five Barcelona goals. Lastly, he scored another all-important goal in the last match against Porto, which won Barcelona all three points in the second match of the Champions League group stage.

Change in mentality

According to Mundo Deportivo, the change in Ferran’s fortunes on the pitch has sprang primarily from a significant change in his own mentality. Last season, an injury prevented him from getting in shape in the pre-season, but this year, the Spaniard was able to showcase all his talent in the pre-season as he ended up being the top scorer of the team.

Despite it being clear that he would not be getting too many chances at Barcelona, Torres continued working hard and made it a goal to stay at the club and prove his worth. His physical and mental hard work has allowed him to shine and he is going to replace the injured Robert Lewandowski in the upcoming matches in the best form of his career.
