For FC Barcelona to properly engage in the summer transfer window and effectively pursue their top priority targets, the Catalan giants will require greater financial backing and a more substantial salary margin.
The latter has been particularly bothersome for Barcelona to deal with because it has created a challenging ordeal when registering current players and certain new arrivals at the club. As a result, Barcelona has had to implement various measures to address this issue.
One measure that the Catalan club decided to take was to agree to a new contract extension with Marc Andre Ter Stegen, deferring his salary to future years of his new 2028 contract. They are also attempting to do the same with Frenkie De Jong’s current contract.
However, there is a different kind of good news awaiting FC Barcelona. American fullback Sergino Dest, whom the Catalan giants have been trying to offload since a good while may finally be on his way to Dutch outfit PSV, as reported by Rik Elfrink.
Moreover, he reports that the medicals for the player have already been prepared and it seems only a matter of time before the deal ends up taking place between the Dutch outfit and FC Barcelona for the American fullback.
Dest arrived at Barcelona from Ajax in 2020 and has previous experience within the Eredivisie that could help him adapt more quickly back within the Dutch league, something that he has not been so successful with in other European leagues such as Spain and even during his one season stint at AC Milan in Italy.
The 22-year-old will possibly be on his way out on loan yet again but it would only clear up 50% of his salary from Barca’s record and potentially open up more salary margin that Barcelona could then use to incorporate their unregistered players as well as any new arrivals that end up coming to FC Barcelona over the remainder of the summer transfer window.
