The talents of FC Barcelona continue to give hope and joy to the club. While seasoned veterans and grand signings may come and go, the absolute magic of La Masia remains consistent. Once the home of the great Lionel Messi, today it helps the new generation come forward.
Within the most recent revelations that the Barcelona academy has produced, one stands out absurdly well. That one is none other than 16-year-old winger Lamine Yamal. Considered a gem of Spanish football already, the player is only getting better and better.
As Mundo Deportivo highlights, Lamine Yamal has already begun to make headlines at the national stage. Before, he was only limited to his moments of magic with Barcelona. Now, however, he does so against international teams as well.
In Spain’s latest European qualifying game against Cyprus, it was Yamal who opened the scoring. This goal, in terms of his overall tally, is Yamal’s second goal for the National team. The first came against Georgia last month and made him the youngest goal-scorer in Spain’s history.
This one that he has now scored against Cyprus was nothing less than a work of art either. Collecting the ball on his left foot, he first left the opposing goalkeeper behind, and then dummied another defender onto the ground. Taking his time, he then slotted the shot into the bottom corner and scored despite two defenders waiting between the sticks.
With this goal, his tally now reaches two for Spain in the European qualifiers. Moreover, the player will now be allied with Spain moving forward. Having played his third game with the National team, he can no longer make a hypothetical switch to the Moroccan National team.
Spain will be delighted, and so will Barcelona. The 16-year-old is already a consistent part of the senior men’s team and has already managed to skip past the Under-17, Under-18, and Under-21 levels of the National team setup.
The National team coach, Luis de la Fuente, continues to look favorably towards the Barcelona wonderkid. Having been on his radar ever since his Under-16 displays, Yamal is seen as the future of both his country and FC Barcelona.
