While Lamine Yamal deservedly got the most plaudits for his performance and goal that gave FC Barcelona the victory in the match against Mallorca, another player who stood out on the night was the defender Pau Cubarsi.

The young defender was able to hold his own against some very physical and vastly more experienced Mallorca attackers, and his contributions were key for Barcelona to get a victory in this match.

After this impressive performance, the 17-year-old also faced the microphones to talk about the match, and as SPORT has reported, he commented on how this was a difficult game for his side to win:

“It was a very difficult match because Mallorca was in good form after qualifying for the Copa del Rey final. But we competed and that’s why we won the match.”

Cubarsi also took this opportunity to describe his play style, and how he tries to play fair as much as he can:

“I try to give my all in every action, going at three hundred percent. I’m always focused and try to anticipate the moves of the forwards. I always try to play fair, although sometimes in football you have to commit fouls. But I always go for the ball.”

The defender was very happy with the way the home fans recognized his performances, and committed to return their love by putting in more such performances in the future:

“I heard how my name was being chanted, and it’s a pride to be recognized for your efforts by the club of your life. I will try my best so that they are repeated at the Camp Nou.”

Lastly, like Xavi, the defender was also hopeful that this victory will help enhance his side’s morale, and spur them to another win in the upcoming match against Napoli:

“This victory allows us to be positively looking ahead to the match against Napoli, where our season is at stake. It will be a final, but we are Barcelona and we must always fight until the end.”

This match against Napoli will be the toughest test for Cubarsi in his career up to now. But Barcelona fans will not be fearful as the youngster has been almost perfect up to now, and has shown that he can cope with any opposition without his age being an impediment for him.
