The season that Pau Cubarsi is having with FC Barcelona is the stuff of legends. The youngster has grown from being a promising youth team player to one of the most highly acclaimed players in the first team in a matter of weeks.

The defender once again displayed his skills to withstand vastly more experienced opposition strikers against Mallorca after having also impressed in the game against Athletic Club.

Naturally, his progress with Barcelona has not gone unnoticed, and one of the entities keeping a highly focused eye on how the youngster is developing is the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Being of Spanish descent, the Spanish footballing federation has a direct interest in keeping an eye on how Cubarsi is performing and developing.

In fact, SPORT reports that the footballing body is very satisfied with the defender’s growth, and at this time, is not ruling out a call-up for the UEFA EURO 2024 and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for the youngster.

The final list for the European international competition is going to be announced at the end of May, and Cubarsi has a good chance to enter this list. The Spanish officials have not seen any player showing such rapid progress in recent years, and are already convinced he can be a part of the national team’s defence for years to come.

While the chance to play in these two tournaments will definitely be a good learning opportunity for the youngster, this state of affairs brings back fears of an overloaded summer for Cubarsi, which had drastic impacts on another Barcelona prodigy, Pedri, in the past.

However, the RFEF is confident that this will not be the case with Cubarsi, and the federation already has the player in its pre-list for the upcoming two friendlies against Colombia and Brazil. If he gets a call-up for these friendlies this Friday, his chances of going to the EURO 2024 will be significantly enhanced.
