The reality of FC Barcelona in La Liga looked quite grim previously, but things are starting to look up. In their latest domestic clash, La Blaugrana thrashed Getafe with a 4-0 scoreline. A solid display all around the field, several of the Barcelona players turned up to play at their best level.

However, there are certain players who still managed to stand out thanks to their extraordinary displays. Certain names like Frenkie De Jong are understandably among them given their proven quality, but a certain youngster was a bit too unplayable for even opponents who were perhaps close to double his age.

Pau Cubarsi, Barça’s latest defensive revelation from La Masia, has taken the footballing world by storm. Aged just 17, he plays with the maturity of a veteran and with the technique of a top midfielder.

Filtering passes, and intercepting with strength and speed, the young Spaniard seems to have it all from what he’s shown at Barcelona. Moreover, as Xavi himself pointed out after the game, Cubarsi surpasses even his own understanding of the game at times:

“Cubarsí surprises you every time. In your head, you think of the correct pass he should play, but then he goes on to make an even better pass. I’m sure that he will make history at this club.”

Such words of praise from a bonafide Barcelona legend and hero, not to mention now the coach of the first team, will definitely resonate well with the young defender. Already beginning to make a name for himself at Barcelona, the club has great expectations from him.

In the latest encounter against Getafe, Cubarsi played the entire match without getting substituted. He completed 71 accurate passes with a success percentage of 88%. Moreover, he had 93 touches, and coupled that with a lot of defensive contributions.

He made a total of 9 clearances, 4 of which were done with his head. Moreover, he made one interception and also made 5 ball recoveries. Furthermore, the 17-year-old had a 100% success rate in all the five duels he contested, both on the ground and in the air.
