This winter transfer window was a relatively quiet affair for FC Barcelona. The Catalans incorporated Vitor Roque in their squad, who had been signed in the last summer transfer window, but no other move was made, either in arrivals or departures.
Barcelona needed to generate money to sign any player in January, but with their squad already quite thin, the Catalans decided not to sell anyone. However, one source of funds still remained open for the club, i.e., income from the sale of players on whom the Blaugranes had a right to get a percentage from any future move.
In this regard, there is some good news for Barcelona in the last days of the winter market. According to SPORT, the defender Sergio Akieme has completed his transfer from Almeria to Stade de Reims, with the French club paying €10 million for him.
Barcelona had a 12% share of his fee, so the Catalans will get €1.2 million from this transfer. The player’s sale has already been made official.
The Blaugranes sold Akieme to Almeria in 2021 for €3.5 million and also kept the previously mentioned 12% right on his future fee. The player came to Barcelona through the former official Roman Planes, with the Catalans paying €300,000 for him.
After moving to Camp Nou, Akieme continued to shine in the reserve team, and attracted the attention of several first-division clubs, with Almeria ultimately signing him.
This piece of business has thus definitely been a profitable affair for Barcelona, and it will allow the Catalans to have a little more salary limit. However, this space will not be enough for the club to get more players in the winter market.
In addition to Akieme, Barcelona also have a sell-on clause in the contracts of several other players. The most notable of these is the French defender Jean Claire Todibo, whose expected move in January did not materialize, but he is still expected to change clubs in the summer. He is valued at €60 million, and the Blaugranes have a 20% right to any fee received for him.
