Over the last couples of weeks, this new-look FC Barcelona team has developed a rather unique identity. The Catalan giants, led by Hansi Flick, seem to play with a lot more conviction than in recent seasons and the relentlessness of the team is there for all to see. Unfortunately, however, old woes continue to strike down Barcelona yet again.

Injuries, almost a mortal enemy for the Catalan club, are still a frustrating issue that the team has to deal with. Many first team stars are already out injured and the list of sidelined players continues to grow and add more headaches for Hansi Flick to worry about.

Unfortunately, the latest of those injuries came to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. Beyond just being the Barcelona captain, the German goalkeeper was by far the club’s best option in his position despite his nature to make some crucial errors in a very untimely fashion.

However, while Inaki Pena is still there for the club and the possibility of recovering a former club hero is still up in the air, Ter Stegen himself is not looking forward to saying his goodbyes to this season and has a completely different idea in mind it seems.

As per Toni Juanmarti, the Barcelona goalkeeper is already working to get his surgery done as soon as possible so that he can start his recovery soon. The goal behind this is to make sure that he can somehow return in Spring of next year and play for Barcelona in the final stretch of the season.

While it is a tall task for him to accomplish, the German goalkeeper believes that this a special team that is going places this season. As per the report, Ter Stegen feels like the team will be competing for titles in that final stretch of this campaign and will definitely be in contention to win at least one major honor.

In terms of another case that was similar to this, Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois has been mentioned. The Belgian goalkeeper, injured for most of the season in the previous campaign, ended up returning for Los Blancos in the final games and even stepped in for them in the UEFA Champions League final to help them beat Borussia Dortmund.

Now, for Ter Stegen, the path to returning starts soon. It remains to be seen if it is even physically possible, as the player wants to do everything in his power to make his return this season a reality but without overexerting himself into getting a relapse or aggravating his already concerning ailment.
