FC Barcelona have already had to deal with several key injuries this season. The Catalan giants have lost many stars of theirs ahead of important games already. However, arguably the worst possible injury to a Barcelona player came towards a particular 19-year-old.

Gavi, still just a youngster for La Blaugrana, suffered an unfortunate injury during the international break. A great deal of damage came to his ACL while it was also assessed that he had damaged his meniscus as well. To deal with this kind of injury, a surgical intervention was required.

Fortunately for Barcelona and the player, that operation seems to have gone smoothly. As per the official FC Barcelona account, Gavi underwent a successful operation. The official statement reads as follows:

First team player Gavi had a successful operation on his torn right knee anterior cruciate ligament plus a meniscus suture today. Supervised by the Club’s Medical Services, Doctor Joan Carles Monllau performed the intervention at Hospital de Barcelona.

While it is certainly great news, there is still a long way to go. Recovery after an injury such as this can be crucial in determining how well a player returns and plays afterwards. For Barcelona, many promising young stars have lost their potential futures with La Blaugrana in the past due to such injuries.

Consequently, Gavi’s case will be taken seriously and given additional care. Already a Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy winner, Gavi remains one of the poster boys of Barcelona heading into their new era.

Fabrizio Romano also confirmed recently that Barcelona hope to have the Spanish midfielder back in time for next season. However, he is likely to miss the European Championship next year, confirmed the transfer expert.
