FC Barcelona have had a dismal injury record over the past few months, with many of the team’s important players being sidelined for significant periods in the season. Sunday’s fixture against Atletico Madrid saw the midfield duo of Frenkie De Jong and Pedri return to the side, with Ousmane Dembele and Andreas Christensen deemed unfit to feature in the fixture.
Following the return of the midfield duo, Barcelona have been handed another injury boost with Andreas Christensen now reportedly in the final stages of making a return to the squad and joined the group training according to Mundo Deportivo. The Dane has been out of action since suffering an injury on national duty in the last international break.
The Dane’s return will come at a good time for Barcelona as they continue pushing for the league title, 11 points clear at the top of the table. With Frenkie and Pedri already getting minutes on their respective returns, and Ousmane Dembele’s return on the horizon, the addition of Christensen will help Xavi’s side shore up the defense as Barcelona look to win their first league title since 2019.
In addition to the return of injured players, the Camp Nou faithful will be keeping a keen eye on the progress of youth players Lamine Yamal, Angel Alarcon, and Aleix Garrido, as they continue to train with the first team. At just 15 years old, Yamal could see himself becoming the youngest player in club history, should Xavi choose to give him minutes this season.
Yamal has been touted as one of the brightest young stars in world football and will surely be looking to become a part of the history books at FC Barcelona. With the return of Christensen, among a handful of other injured players now returning, Barcelona will be looking to get a firm grip on the coveted LaLiga trophy.
