The urgency at FC Barcelona remains intact when it comes to the signing of top-level players in order to compete for European success next season. For most of the summer transfer window, the main objective of the club was to find an appropriate replacement for Sergio Busquets.
However, as time has progressed and the priority choices such as Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich have become unfeasible, the Catalans have resolved to find a low-cost solution for their issue in hand.
Yet, there are doubts that even that may become difficult to do so with the likes of Marcelo Brozovic getting closer to Al-Nassr day by day.
Accordingly, the newest report by Mundo Deportivo suggests that Barcelona have an alternative plan of action entirely. It states that should the Catalans be unable to find an adequate candidate for the defensive midfield position, they will turn their attention towards finding a right back instead.
Moreover, the right back currently gaining the most prominence for this matter is none other than Real Valladolid youngster Ivan Fresneda. The 18-year-old fullback, hailing originally from Madrid, has gained much prominence in La Liga this season for his displays, despite the relegation of his side to the Segunda Division.
With Barcelona believing that in the scenario that no new defensive midfielder arrives, they consider themselves already well-equipped with players who can play in that position such as Frenkie De Jong, Ilkay Gundogan, Eric Garcia, and possibly even Andreas Christensen as a wild card of sorts.
Moreover, due to the prior mentioned relegation of Real Valladolid, Ivan Fresneda’s own release clause has reportedly decreased from €40 million to €20 million, a price tag that a lot of interested clubs in La Liga will find enticing, FC Barcelona themselves included.
