There are already some very big dilemmas within FC Barcelona that the club is trying to solve. From transfer problems to financial limitations, a lot of avenues have proven to be problematic for the Catalan giants. Unfortunately, things are not exactly looking to improve anytime soon for Barcelona.

Rather, more problems and hurdles continue to pile up for La Blaugrana. Beyond just their failure to acquire Nico Williams and with them now being forced to look for alternatives, even the players they already have continue to cause them a lot of different kinds of headaches.

According to AS, however, the biggest headache internally right now seems to come with Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder, who has been at Barça since 2019, is currently recovering from an injury he suffered back in April and there is currently still no expectation as to when he will return to the field.

Moreover, he has already been out for close to four months, which is a duration twice as long as the initial two month prognosis that came out regarding the recovery time he would need. With doubts beginning to rise about the kind of injury he has sustained, Barcelona is not too fond about the potential future issues it could bring along.

However, the biggest problem that comes along right now with this injury is his contract. The player is not even fit to play and there is no expectation as to when he will be back on the field, yet he continues to boast reportedly the highest salary in La Liga due to the accumulation of all his pending payments from the club.

Despite the club’s efforts to renegotiate his contract or at least come into contact with him over it, the response from the player and his agent has not been positive. Moreover, according to AS, Barcelona is beginning to suspect that the Dutchman’s intention is to run out his contract and then leave for free in 2026.

As it stands, the future of the €70 million-rated Barcelona midfielder remains unclear. Due to his injury, an immediate exit seems difficult but the club also needs him to look into his contract with them to make it sustainable at least. While he continues to recover poorly, Barça can at least look towards another midfield maestro as a ray of hope in terms of his return.
