After starting the season in blazing form, the FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski slowed down significantly in the last few weeks of 2024. However, he was back at his best with the turn of the year as he scored another two goals in the game against UD Barbastro in the Copa del Rey.

The Blaugranes will be hoping that the Pole will continue to put such performances in the coming matches as well. But despite these hopes, there is already concern at the Catalan club about his advanced age, as he is already 36 years old and does not have many years left to play at the highest level.

As a result, they are already looking to bring in a long-term replacement for him in the coming months, and for this purpose have been linked with several top-class strikers.

One name that has entered their list recently is the Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, who has been playing at a very high level this season under Unai Emery. He has scored 7 goals in the Premier League and another 3 in the UEFA Champions League up to now.

In fact, SPORT claims that Barcelona have already held a meeting with Duran’s agent in the Catalan city a few weeks ago. However, this meeting was not aimed at starting negotiations for his transfer but only to show their interest in the forward who has already expressed excitement at the possibility of playing in the blue and garnet jersey.

The Blaugrana side has recently returned to the 1:1 rule, and thus are now in a better position to get their required reinforcements than they previously were.

However, signing Duran will still not be easy as he has a contract with Aston Villa till 2030 and is currently valued at €40 million by Transfermarket. But keeping in view his importance for Emery’s team, the English club is not expected to let him depart for less than €60-70 million.

Although he is not yet a primary target for FC Barcelona, the Catalans will have to make a decision about him soon as other big clubs are also interested in his signing.

  1. Why are you saying he is CURRENTLY valued at €40 million!? That was what he was valued at BEFORE the season even began back In August! Since then he has been sensational and has progressed to starting for Villa and signed a new long term contract?
So now can he be still “valued ” at the the same price he was 5 months ago!!? It’s VILLA who decide what he Is “CURRENTLY” , yes “CURRENTLY” valued at , not back In August and that figure would be around €80 million with add ons now

    1. Thank you for your comment and for sharing your perspective. You make a valid point about the progression Jhon Durán has made since the start of the season.

However, the €40 million valuation referenced in the article is based on Transfermarkt’s estimate, which often serves as a general benchmark for market value rather than the club’s actual asking price.

As noted in the same paragraph, the article acknowledges that Aston Villa values Durán far more highly given his importance to Unai Emery’s team.

Hence, the expectation that the club would demand €60-70 million—or even more with add-ons—for his transfer.

Ultimately, Aston Villa will indeed decide the final valuation, and it’s likely to reflect Durán’s current form and long-term potential.
