Having ended this season without any trophy, significant changes are expected in the Barcelona team for the upcoming season. In this regard, there are several players that the Catalans are aiming to bring in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The main priority of the club is to acquire a midfield pivot, as this is one of the clearest weaknesses in Xavi’s squad since Sergio Busquets left last summer. Oriol Romeu was brought to replace him, but has been unable to play at the level required by Barcelona.
In fact, the Blaugranes have already made significant progress in this operation to bring a midfield pivot, as SPORT reports that a pact between the Catalan club and the Real Betis player, Guido Rodriguez, was signed some months ago.
This pact was signed in the last international break, but Deco had advanced the operation for Argentine’s signing last year as he was one of the options to be Busquets’ heir, but ultimately Oriol Romeu was signed for this role.
Deco had met with his representatives in the last international break to arrive at a consensus for a future agreement that would be signed once the current season ends. The midfielder’s contract with Real Betis is going to end this summer, thus he will be arriving at Barcelona without any fee.
After arriving at his new club, he will take Oriol Romeu’s position, while the Spaniard will leave the Catalan side. Furthermore, Guido’s signing will not rule out the procurement of other signings like Joshua Kimmich.
Rodriguez has been an important player for Real Betis throughout this season, who had twenty-two La Liga appearances in which he has scored two goals. He had another five appearances in the UEFA Europa League, while with the Argentine national team, he has accumulated 29 international matches throughout his career.
