Although FC Barcelona were looking to bring some other reinforcements to their team before the start of this transfer window, for now, they are prioritizing the signing of a left-winger, i.e., Nico Williams. The Catalans have already incorporated another of their key targets, Dani Olmo, into their team.
Now, the Blaugranes are focusing all their efforts on the signing of Nico Williams, despite the setback they received some days ago.
However, things can change quickly in football, and if Barcelona do decide to go for a midfielder in the coming weeks, SPORT reports that they already have a target in mind. This player is the Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, whom the Catalans like for his dynamism and versatility.
There have already been contacts between the two clubs and the agent of the player to check out the possibility of a transfer. As things stand, the Blues are committed to keeping hold of the midfielder. However, the player himself believes he will not have a very prominent role with Chelsea under Enzo Maresca, and thus is open to a move to Barcelona.
However, the new Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, does not believe he needs any more midfielders in his squad after the good performances from Marc Casado and Marc Bernal in the preseason. Still, Barcelona are keeping Chukwuemeka in their sights in case there is a change of plans for Flick in the coming days.
Thus, while the player is looking forward to a move to Barcelona, the Catalans are unlikely to undertake an operation for him. But, the former Aston Villa midfielder is also aware that things can change quickly in football, and Flick can still have a change of heart.
If such a thing happens, Deco will have to convince Chelsea to agree to a sale, which might not be too difficult keeping in view his low standing with Maresca.
