As previously reported, FC Barcelona were in advanced talks to complete the signing of Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye from Croatian side NK Kustosija.
Now, as it is being reported by trusted journalist and Italian football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and Spanish news outlet SPORT, Barcelona have indeed completed the signing of Mikayil Faye from Croatian second division team NK Kustosija for a fee around the region of €5 million alongside add-ons.
Considered a top talent by many, the player is reportedly now set to partake and complete his medical before an official announcement by the club takes place and confirms the signing.
To land Faye in Catalonia, Barcelona had to fight off interest from the likes of German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and English Premier League outfit Chelsea, both of whom in recent times have been credited with focusing on younger talents and ensuring their long-term stays with the respective clubs.
Barcelona on the other hand, are a team struggling with financial issues and thus must take certain measures if they wish to bring in talented stars to reinforce their side for the future.
Unable to afford the expensive elites of world football at the moment, a focus on acquiring low-cost but talented youngsters alongside free agents is what Barcelona consider their most feasible option right now.
With the signing of 18-year-old Mikayil Faye, Barcelona have essentially acquired a talent that has already represented his nation Senegal at U-17 level. Now under wraps, the center-back will soon become the second defensive acquisition for FC Barcelona this summer after Athletic Bilbao’s Inigo Martinez.
