In terms of finding new players to sign, FC Barcelona has been rather cautious in recent years. They can no longer spend without a second thought, and perhaps it has been a blessing in disguise. All these financial restrictions being imposed on Barcelona may have helped them learn an eternally applicable lesson.

Just because a player would cost a lot to bring in, does not necessarily make him the most likely to succeed at the club. Many errors in the past have already confirmed this, and it is perhaps in the best interest of Barcelona to avoid making those mistakes ever again, and certain blockbuster operations end up evading the club by themselves.

However, it is also true that the club is reportedly considering bringing in a new striker in the upcoming summer. Yet, to make sure that their own finances are not exactly a problem in this hunt for a new striker, Barcelona have a special criterion to keep in mind.

As highlighted by SPORT, the Catalan club is keeping a special eye on strikers who will become free agents in the summer of 2025 once their current contracts expire. While there are some solid names on that list, one stands out above the others.

Jonathan David, Lille’s goal-scoring hero against Real Madrid and one of Canadian football’s brightest stars right now, is perhaps the biggest opportunity on that list. While it is true that the 24-year-old striker’s agent has initiated contacts with some Premier League sides, there is an awareness that he is still available.

With 8 goals in 12 matches this season and an extraordinary 92 goals across 195 appearances in total, his consistency is redoubtable for LOSC Lille. Moreover, with the Canadian forward being valued at €50 million, he is automatically the most valuable striker out of all the ones who see their contracts expire at the end of this season.

Other options exist as well but they either lack in quality or are too old. Moussa Dembele and Luka Jovic, aged 28 and 26 respectively, are options that are young as well but they do not necessarily provide the same kind of quality and consistency that David can offer.

Then come the veterans, and some huge global stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo (39 years old), Olivier Giroud (38 years old), and Edin Dzeko (38 years old) can also be found there. However, there are other options that would make much more sense than these three for one reason or another.

Alexandre Lacazette (aged 33) could be an option that Barcelona may consider. However, just like other veterans such as Kramaric or 33-year-old Raul Jimenez, the age factor is crucial. Jimenez, on the other hand, at least seems to have shown a consistent level of scoring this season despite his age.

Vitor Roque is also an option that could be brought back to Barcelona if needed. Given that his long-term future could still lie with the Catalan giants, another solution may not be needed given the fact that Robert Lewandowski is also still at the club and continues to offer his best performance in quite some time.
