There is almost always a brilliant story brewing in the youth divisions of FC Barcelona thanks to the club’s culture. For many years now, young talent has been cultivated by the Catalan club and a special emphasis has been placed on them. Fortunately enough, they have returned that faith by succeeding with the Barcelona first team as well.
However, perhaps what makes some stories even more intriguing than others is the context and backstory. Previously, both Guille and Toni Hernandez caught everyone’s eyes by being two cousins who were quite easily the standout performers over in the quarry and even became part of Hansi Flick’s first team squad for some games.
Yet, while the two Fernandez cousins may have been unique in terms of the great quality that they both possessed, they were not the first pair at Barcelona who came from the same family and they are not going to be the last either. Previously, both Lionel Messi and Bojan Krkic shared that same fate, and now two brothers are also on the same path.
As highlighted by SPORT, the next such pair comes in the form of Unai and Unax Hernandez. Unlike the other pairs mentioned, however, these two share a much closer bond both in terms of blood and also the way in which they have grown up together.
Unai, the older of the two Hernandez brothers, is 19 years old and the captain of Albert Sanchez’s Barcelona Atletic. A standout performer as an interior, he also has the ability to play as a left-winger and possesses great versatility both in terms of his positional placement and his quality as well.
Unax, his 13-year-old brother, on the other hand, plays in a completely different role. Initially a central defender, he is now mainly used as a pivot to make use of his own technical qualities more often. Just like his brother, moreover, he is proper captain material.
Across all the youth-level teams that he has been a part of at Barcelona, Unax has been a captain for almost each of those teams. His leadership is a clear quality of his that can be seen even through the viral video circulating of him screaming for his team to give them some additional motivation.
While Unai already seems quite close to the first team, both because of his obvious quality and also because of his age, Unax possesses the same kind of potential as well. However, it is true that the younger of the two brothers still has a long way to go before he can catch up with his brother at the highest level, but so far, nothing seems to be able to stop the progression of the two brothers.
