Barcelona overcame Basque opponents Athletic Bilbao in their latest La Liga outing. Winning by a singular goal, the Catalan giants managed to emerge as 1-0 victors. While there were various performances worth praising, the star of the show was undoubtedly the goalscorer.
17-year-old Marc Guiu emerged in the 79th minute as Barça’s fourth substitute arrival. However, people did not have to wait long to see what he is truly capable of. 23 seconds into his first team debut, the La Masia product scored the winner for FC Barcelona.
Understandably, the player has been getting a lot of attention since that moment. A dream debut for the player, it also comes with future expectations now. One of the most pressing matters in the minds of fans is his eligibility to represent Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
According to the information provided by SPORT, the player is definitely eligible to do so. He can and most probably will be entered into Barça’s final squad list for the European tournament. As per the rules of UEFA:
“Clubs have the right to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season, but the list must be sent before 00:00 CET the day before a match.”
This would mean that Barcelona have until Tuesday midnight to register Guiu for the game against Shakhtar Donetsk. In turn, that would make the player eligible for the third game of the Champions League group stage for Barcelona.
Previously, on the 9th of September, Barcelona released their Champions League list. Comprised of 27 players in total, it featured all of the 19 first-team players. Simultaneously, it also included 6 players from Barcelona Atletic and 2 from Juvenil A.
The players in question are Ander Astralaga, Lamine Yamal, Angel Alarcon, Marc Casado, Fermin Lopez, Aleix Garrido, Pau Cubarsi, and Diego Kochen. In terms of positions, the B list includes two forwards, three midfielders, one defender, and two goalkeepers.
