As the current season is virtually over for FC Barcelona, the club is planning for the upcoming season, with aims to build on this season’s domestic success, and regain a foothold in Europe. In this regard, Xavi is working with Alemany, and has already had contacts with Deco, and these three will be overseeing the operations being undertaken in this summer.
As Xavi has proved himself to be a worthy candidate for a long to medium-term coaching role at the club, SPORT reports that he will be playing an important role in determining the squad that will be available for him.
Despite winning La Liga in his first full season, along with the Spanish Supercup, the weaknesses of the team in Europe are there for everyone to see. The Catalans put up a daring fight against both Bayern Munich and the finalists Inter Milan, but folded easily when they were dealt the first blows.
The trio of Xavi, Alemany, and Deco will be working on this shortcoming of the squad. In this aspect, they will have to work on the day-to-day training of the players, as well as their mental and physical aspects, which will allow them to compete with the best in Europe.
Similarly, strong reinforcements are also necessary for the team to compete in Europe. Firstly, the trio is looking for a replacement of Busquets. A number of candidates have been identified, which include Amrabat, Zubimendi, Neves, Gundogan, and the latest addition being that of Kimmich.
For the attack, they will be looking for an able substitute for Lewandowski, who has had a good season, but one which showed patches of bad form. To mitigate the situation arising from Lewandowski’s lack of form going into the next season, the club is considering signing of Vitor Roque or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Lastly, a right back is also on the agenda of the trio, with a number of options being considered. While Kounde and Araujo have been satisfactory in this position in the current season, the team suffers from the lack of an attacking full-back, and Barcelona would be looking to sign one such player this transfer window.
