FC Barcelona are on course to win the La Liga title, as they currently sit 12 points clear of the second-placed Real Madrid, with the Catalan club having 10 matches to play. The defense has played a central role in helping the club get to this position in the league table.
While the defense has been the best in the league, with the fewest goals conceded, and the most clean sheets kept, the attack has not performed to a similar standard. As a result, SPORT reports that the coaching staff and the Sports management are looking to revamp the team’s attack, if the wage limit problems can be solved.
Only Robert Lewandowski has been able to perform to the required standards of the team, while the other attackers have been rather inconsistent. Dembele, who is perhaps the most important attacking threat in the team, has been injured for a significant portion of the season, and his replacement in Raphinha has returned only average performances.
In the goal-scoring department, only Lewandowski’s 17 league goals seem respectable, while Raphinha’s 6, Dembele’s 5, Fati’s 4, and Torres’ 3 are significantly below the team’s standards. The recent reports from SPORT claim that there could be three new faces at Camp Nou in the coming season.
Ez Abde, having a phenomenal season at Osasuna, can be reincorporated into the first team dynamics. Yannick Carrasco could be signed from Atletico Madrid, while another goal-scoring number 9 will also be sought by the club to replace Lewandowski at some points in the campaign.
This need for an alternative to Lewandowski has been felt keenly since Aubameyang’s departure, as both Fati and Torres have failed to impress in a central position.
Vitor Roque is the ideal candidate for this role at Barcelona, as he will grow and learn from one of the best strikers in football, while also having some opportunities to get on the pitch. On the other hand, if Aubameyang can be bought back for free, this would be a very desirable option for the Catalan club.
