FC Barcelona takes pride in the fact that their youth development remains one of the strongest in the world. The Catalan giants, despite their financial limitations, remain competitive in part due to the influence of their youngsters and their special talents.

Many positions that felt vulnerable at Barcelona have now been taken over by such youth talents. Jordi Alba’s left-back slot was taken over by Alejandro Balde, while various midfield positions have now become the property of several talented midfielders such as Pedri, Gavi, and Fermin Lopez.

However, it appears that it is not only outfield positions that Barcelona can rely on their subsidiary for. According to SPORT, Barcelona have highlighted Spanish keeper Marc Vidal as a possible addition to the Marc Andre Ter Stegen contingency plan.

Currently playing for Barcelona Atletic on loan from FC Andorra, Vidal is seen as an exceptional goalkeeper. For now, Rafa Marquez continues to rely on his services while Ander Astralaga typically remains with the first team.

However, Barcelona consider that Vidal’s ball-playing abilities could be of significant use to the side and his invitation to the first team may not be too far away. In fact, SPORT believes that Barça will likely call upon the 23-year-old Vidal if Inaki Pena suffers any kind of mishap.

For now, the latter has been more than just solid for Barcelona. In his last three appearances, he has only gotten better and better. In fact, the last victory over Atletico Madrid would not even have been possible had it not been for the heroics of the 24-year-old.

Having played in the Segunda Division before, Barcelona could even consider permanently purchasing Vidal’s services from FC Andorra. However, this will likely depend on the ability of Barça Atletic to secure promotion to said Segunda Division this season.
