As time continues to pass, FC Barcelona grow closer and closer to their ultimate goal. Beyond anything else this summer, the Catalan club wants to create a competitive squad. To do so, however, Barcelona must secure some crucial signings beforehand.

Throughout the summer, constant rumors and links have been connecting Barcelona to Athletic Club star Nico Williams. The 22-year-old Spanish winger, who impressed thoroughly during the European Championship, is now the player that Barça wish to bring in this summer.

However, it was previously being questioned if the club would be able to afford such a luxury arrival, and rumors of possible loans were also spiraling. Fortunately for Barcelona, it would now seem that the operation is as safe as ever and is finally entering a crucial stage.

According to SPORT, the operation is so advanced by now that Barcelona could secure the signing of Nico Williams within ten days if everything goes to plan. All that is left is the final approval from the player’s side and everything will finally be in place.

Once that approval is with Barcelona, the Catalan club will have no issues remaining. Moreover, SPORT states that Barça are capable of paying his release clause by themselves. This is especially helpful since no external help may end up being needed.

With this payment of the €58 million release clause, Barça would not even need to consult or negotiate with Athletic Club. The only message they would receive is that of the payment of the release clause, and that their player is now headed to the paying party.

At the moment, the report states that the proposal on the table for Williams is of a long-term contract, and the player himself is unwilling to let this chance slip. For the Athletic Club star, this Barcelona train is one he needs to get on now that every piece has fallen into place to guarantee his arrival.
