FC Barcelona enter this next phase of the ongoing season with a hardened mentality. The Catalan giants have suffered heavy blows this season already, both domestically and on the continental stage. However, Barcelona remains resilient and despite the criticism, they look forward to the rest of the season.

One of the main things to look forward to in the coming weeks is the January winter transfer window. So far, only the arrival of Brazilian forward Vitor Roque seems confirmed. The 18-year-old striker is expected to add goals to a Barça side struggling in that department.

Speaking about his arrival, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was asked about the expectations from the Brazilian wonderkid:

“Deco has explained to us that he is a player with a knack for scoring, and I believe he will be very good for us now because he can help us a lot. We have virtuoso players, natural goal-scorers like Lewandowski, and he will be a complement to the team.”

However, then came the big news from the mouth of the Barcelona president himself. Joan Laporta has confirmed Barça’s desire to pursue the signing of a midfielder on loan in January to fill the void left by Gavi’s absence:

“If we manage to have ‘fair play,’ the idea is to have a midfielder who somehow compensates for Gavi’s absence. It would be a loan until the end of the season, similar to what we did many years ago with Edgar Davids, for instance.”

While big transfers are often not a common occurrence in most January transfer windows, Barcelona is no ordinary side. With this current version of FC Barcelona, nothing can be crossed off as being too ambitious.

Laporta also commented on the possible budget that Barcelona could have for the summer. Having been restricted heavily for several seasons by this point due to Financial Fair Play, the Barcelona president hopes to have a much more sustainable transfer window in the summer:

“If we meet the budget, which is very ambitious, we could go to the market with guarantees of making operations that do not require personal guarantees from the directors, and it would be a matter of being able to sign normally.”
