There are few names as synonymous with FC Barcelona as that of Argentinian icon Lionel Messi. Now a player for Inter Miami over in the MLS, he was once the face of the Catalan club and arguably even of world football. However, things did not exactly end between Barcelona and Messi on the best of notes.

Following his departure back in 2021, it became clear that a lot of misunderstandings and internal issues remained between Lionel Messi and the current FC Barcelona board led by club president Joan Laporta. Unfortunately, mending these broken relationships has been a tall order for the club since then.

One way the club had hoped to reunite with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was by inviting him to the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations. However, there was no certainty that the Barcelona icon would even attend the event as long as Joan Laporta and his board remain in charge.

Now, however, there is a new update that will come as great news for FC Barcelona when it comes to Lionel Messi’s involvement in those planned celebrations. As highlighted by Miguel Rico (h/t Reshad Rahman), Lionel Messi indeed plans to attend the gala that is scheduled for the 29th of November.

This event could end up being a great turning point in the relations between the club and their former global superstar. After all, Barcelona would hardly have the prestige or success that they are currently enjoying had it not been for the supernatural talents of the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

It remains to be seen if Messi does ultimately show up for the official event, but this update is undoubtedly quite positive news. For now, the 37-year-old Argentine superstar continues to focus on his team over in the United States of America, while Barcelona will be looking towards their upcoming game against RCD Espanyol in La Liga.
