FC Barcelona continue to have problems with their financial limitations due to various regulations associated with Financial fair play.
As a result, the Catalan giants have had to work with restrictive measures when it comes to pursuing their transfer targets as well as incorporating their own players within the league records.
Finding various means to bypass these limitations, Barcelona have had to pursue low-cost or free alternatives to their priority summer targets, and as things progress, more progressive methods may be needed to overcome their current limitations.
To counter that, a contract extension with Marc Andre Ter Stegen is set to be signed that will be valid up until 2028, which also sees the German goalkeeper defer his salary and give up a significant chunk of it which will then be compensated in the final three years from 2025 onwards.
According to the Spanish outlet SPORT, the Catalans are hoping to apply the same process with another one of the FC Barcelona captains, Frenkie De Jong.
Currently one of the highest earners in the team, FC Barcelona are hoping to get the Dutchman to agree to a deferred salary contract similar to the one accepted by Ter Stegen, as they hope the example of the German shot-stopper may also impact that of the Dutch midfielder’s.
An integral piece of Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona outfit, the 26-year-old midfielder currently has a contract that expires in 2026, with Barcelona hoping to extend that duration with the opportunity of delaying the payment of a portion of his salary which could allow Barcelona to operate more easily in the summer window.
It could aid in terms of both registering players at Barcelona as well as completing Xavi’s requests of bringing in a right-back, offensive midfielder, and a forward as well if the opportunity for that presents itself.
