The quest of FC Barcelona for finding and signing the hottest prospects in the world of football continues unabated as the club pursues its strategy of buying high-potential players before them becoming too expensive.

The latest player that the club has set its sights on is the Uruguayan Fabricio Diaz. The young Uruguayan is currently tied to Liverpool Montevideo and plays as a midfielder. The player has attracted the attention of the scouts and agents operating at the pinnacle of club football with his performances in the recently held Under-20 Championship.

The youngster scored 5 goals and gave 2 assists in 8 matches in this tournament, which helped his team get to the final, where they lost to the tournament-winning Brazil team.

FC Barcelona are currently the favorites to land the talented midfielder in Europe, and according to multiple reports, negotiations are underway between the involved parties. One recent news report from Global Deportivo claimed that Fabricio Díaz will join the Catalan side after the conclusion of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

According to the reports from Mundo Deportivo, the player’s agent was also spotted recently in FC Barcelona offices in Catalonia, which shows the degree to which negotiations between the player and the club have advanced.

FC Barcelona intend to bring the player to Europe, but he will not be a part of the first team initially. He is expected to join Rafa Marquez’s Barcelona B side for some months before he adapts to his changed surroundings and is ready for first-team action.

The operation is expected to cost Barcelona an estimated €8 million. While such an amount is significant, especially in the strained financial conditions of the club, still it is an investment worth taking a risk on.

The player can be polished into a finished product at the club, as has been the case with Diaz’s compatriot Ronald Araujo, which would enhance his value significantly, and thus put a high-value asset in Barcelona’s portfolio.
